Kochland

by Christopher Leonard

I’m really glad that I decided to pick up this book. At the intersection of both politics and business, the Koch brothers should have been right up my alley. However, like the other pillars of the Trump election (Bannon, Kushner etc.), I had little faith that Koch was anything more than someone at the right place at the right time. Reading through this book, I found that this was anything but the case. The story of how Charles Koch built his empire one step at a time would have felt extremely inspiring if not for the deadly consequences that Koch’s reign has had on American politics. Part of me is still shocked at how cheaply our democracy can be bought and the other part of me is a little sad at how easily pliable even our nation’s leaders can be. All in all, I’m extremely glad I got a chance to pick this up and learn a bit more about America.
